ESCA Summer Conference to Seek Labor Solutions for Expo Industry
By Staff -- Tradeshow Week, 4/5/2004
Labor relations will be the top concern at the Exhibition Services & Contractors Assn.'s 15th Annual Summer Educational Conference June 27-30 at the Monterey (Calif.) Resort & Spa.
The conference is scheduled to open with a special session devoted to the interaction of labor and service contractors, with labor leaders and service contractors seeking to create a more harmonious relationship.
"This is not about problems, this is about solutions," said ESCA Executive Director Susan Schwartz. "We hope to begin a dialogue on including our labor partners in finding a solution in helping exhibitors have a better experience at shows."
Schwartz added that, "As service contractors know, the labor on the floor represents them, even though they are not direct employees and we believe the time has come to increase the dialogue to serve our mutual customer – the exhibitor."
She said the expanded educational program is the first step in welcoming labor and facilities to the membership.
The program, entitled "Tools of the Trade," will also offer information on using human resources, understanding technology and cultivating relationships.
About 250 U.S. and Canadian attendees are expected at the conference, comprising upper and middle management from general service contracting firms, as well as specialty contractors in cleaning, furniture rental, floral, transportation and photography.
