New CIC Hall of Leaders Pavilion Opens in D.C. Convention Center
By Staff -- Tradeshow Week, 4/5/2004
The Convention Industry Council unveiled its Hall of Leaders Recognition Pavilion in the new Washington (D.C.) Convention Center last month.
The interactive display features videos and presentations detailing the industry's economic impact and its value as a profession. The display also contains information about CIC member organizations and Hall of Leaders inductees.
A celebration was held in the pre-function space around the pavilion with nearly a quarter of the 80 Hall of Leaders inductees in attendance.
Kim Methe, vice president of The Freeman Companies and president of ESCA, joined Michael Gehrisch, Intl. Assn. of Convention & Visitors Bureau president and CEO and CIC chairman, in cutting the ribbon.
Hall of Leaders member Peter Nathan, president of PWN Exhibicon Intl., called the brief ceremony "very engaging, as there were many former inducted Hall of Leaders members present."
The Hall of Leaders was launched in the early 1980s. For more than 15 years, inductees were honored with a bronze plaque housed in the old Washington Convention Center.
"One of the goals of the Convention Industry Council is to promote and recognize leadership within our industry," said Mary Power, president of CIC. "The Hall of Leaders is central to that effort."
Six more members will be inducted at CIC's Hall of Leaders Gala July 26 in Denver.
