Philadelphia CVB Chairman Resigns
By Staff -- Tradeshow Week, 4/26/2004
The Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau is looking for a new chairman, but it won't affect tradeshows, according to a bureau spokesperson. Bruce Crawley, who resigned in early April after 18 years with the bureau, dealt primarily with membership issues. Tom Muldoon, whose responsibilities include booking the Pennsylvania Convention Center, remains CVB president.
According to published reports, Crawley quit following a dispute with Mayor John Street. Two CVB board members will fill the unpaid chairman's position until a permanent replacement can be named. A committee has been convened to consider local industry leaders, board members and others who have been nominated. Crawley's term had been set to end in November.
Now that it has a new labor agreement, the Pennsylvania Convention Center has recently embarked on a concerted push to lure new tradeshows. The most recent booking was Advanstar Communications' AIIM ON DEMAND, a 223,700 net square foot show that draws 20,000 people.
