House to Home Brings Whole Shebang
By Staff -- Tradeshow Week, 4/26/2004
Beginning this October, George Little Management will add another event to its collocated triple-whammy of the New York Home Textiles Show, EX-TRACTS and SURTEX Gallery.
The new addition, the New York Gourmet Housewares Show, usually meets in San Francisco in the spring, but has branched out because exhibitors wanted the chance to reach buyers from smaller East Coast specialty stores in the fall, said Penny Sikalis, vice president and group manager. The combined event, now called House to Home Market Week, will be held Oct. 8-11 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York.
"We took a look and determined it would make a hell of a lot of sense with the synergy," said Sikalis. She explained that because consumers shop for a full range of matching products in one room at a time, retailers are also beginning to buy complementary products all in one stroke. For this reason, she said, it makes sense for the textiles of the Home Textiles show, the designs and licensing art of SURTEX and the beauty and personal care products of EX-TRACTS to be teamed up with the specialty cookware products of Gourmet Housewares.
The unique concept has Sikalis anticipating 400 exhibitors over 60,000 net square feet for the Gourmet Housewares section, 300 exhibitors over 45,000 net sq. ft. in the Home Textiles section, 150 exhibitors over 10,000 net sq. ft. in the EX-TRACTS area, and 50 exhibi-tors over 5,000 net sq. ft. in the SURTEX division. She believes the total number of attendees will be 8,000, about 2,000 more than the number expected for GLM's The Gourmet Products Show coming this May 9-11 at Moscone West in San Francisco.
"We're always looking to grow," Sikalis said, admitting, "9/11 created a lot of issues. We had to cancel our Oct. '01 show." She stressed, however, that the show has been back on track in subsequent years.
