GlobalShop Back at Sands for 3 More Years
By Staff -- Tradeshow Week, 4/26/2004
GlobalShop, a Tradeshow Week 200 event that serves the store design and in-store marketing industry, will be returning to the Sands Expo & Convention Center in 2005, 2007 and 2008.
VNU Expositions signed the contracts on the heels of its March 20-24 show at the Sands, which drew about 15,000 attendees and 850 exhibitors spanning 271,000 net square feet. That was larger than the 2003 show at the Sands, which featured a 253,800 net sq. ft. showfloor with 715 exhibitors and 12,000 attendees, according to figures supplied to Tradeshow Week's research department.
In 2002, however, when GlobalShop was held at Chicago's McCormick Place, the event drew 17,618 attendees and 895 exhibitors in a 306,000 net sq. ft. showfloor, ranking it 67th on the TSW 200.
Nonetheless, Doug Hope, VNU Expositions group vice president, said satisfaction levels have been high since the event moved to Las Vegas.
But in deference to the show's Chicago birthplace more than a decade ago, McCormick Place will continue to be part of the rotation, with a GlobalShop show scheduled there in 2006. "We were built there. Chicago's been a great venue for us," Hope said.
