American Lawyer Media Plans Show Launch

American Lawyer Media, producer of the LEGALTECH series, plans to launch an event dealing specifically with the business side of running a law firm.
The inaugural Law Firm Inc. Conference & Exposition will be held at the Hilton New York Sept. 13–14. ALM realized there was demand for such a show after the legal community reacted favorably to the recently launched Law Firm Inc. magazine.
"We heard people in the industry saying there's a need for an increased focus on the business side. They wanted something that focused specifically on that," said Lee Feldman, an ALM spokesman.
Organizers are expecting 1,700 attendees and 90 exhibitors at the new event. Exhibitors will be drawn from companies specializing in law firm office systems, equipment and management services. The four conference tracks — dedicated to business development and marketing, firm management and operations, human resources and training, and finance and insurance — will qualify for continuing legal education credit.
ALM, backed by the private-equity firm U.S. Equity Partners, produces 33 legal publications.
Its first LEGALTECH events were launched in 1981 in Chicago, Los Angeles and New York, and eventually the brand spread to New Orleans, San Francisco London and Toronto. The New York LEGALTECH is the largest, drawing 350 exhibitors and more than 8,000 attendees.
