Canon to Launch Chinese Medical Show
By David Cohen -- Tradeshow Week, 8/2/2004
A burgeoning economy and tradeshow-friendly business culture have enticed an American company to launch a first-of-its-kind medical manufacturing tradeshow in China. Canon Communications has announced the inaugural MEDTEC China, a tradeshow and conference aimed at bringing medical device manufacturers together with suppliers that sell to the Chinese market.
The inaugural MEDTEC China will be held Sept. 13–15, 2005 at the China Hi-Tech Fair Exhibition Center in Shenzhen, near Hong Kong and Guangzhou. Canon's Chinese partner is CAMDI, the China Assn. for Medical Devices Industry. Dan Cutrone, customer and media relations manager at Canon, said MEDTEC China will be China's first manufacturing-to-supplier show in the medical manufacturing field, which is seeing explosive growth in China.
"We have been tracking the progress of the medical manufacturing infrastructure development," said Cutrone. "We're quite keen to replicate the success we've had in Europe putting together shows that serve the indigenous market plus our core customers."
Cutrone said Canon expects around 350 exhibitors and 5,000 attendees. The show will be sponsored by China Medical Device Magazine, a new Canon publication also gearing up for a 2005 launch.
One company eager to exhibit is Zeus, a manufacturer of high-end engineering plastics. Zeus is pursuing the Chinese market aggressively but has never exhibited at a tradeshow in China before. C. Eduardo Braga, director of marketing at Zeus, said Canon's experience was what lured them to MEDTEC China. "Having worked with this sponsor for a number of years, we feel a high level of comfort that the show will be very well attended by our target audience," said Braga.
