UFI, the Global Assn. of the Exhibition Industry, has chosen as its next president Tom Beyer, CEO of Stockholmsmässan, Stockholm, Sweden. He will succeed current President Ruud van Ingen in October 2005.
The Hong Kong Exhibition and Convention Industry Assn. has re-elected Stanley Chu to another two-year term as chairman.
Thomas Hagen has been elected president of the Assn. of the German Trade Fair Industry. He is CEO of the Weidmüller Group, Detmold, and succeeds Horst Dietz, president since 2001.
Meeting Professionals Intl. has named members of its 2004–2005 executive committee:
- Chairman Hugh Lee, president of Fusion Productions
- Chairwoman-elect Christine Duffy, president and COO of Maritz McGettigan
- Vice chairman for finance David Johnson, president and CEO of Aimbridge Hospitality
- Vice chairman for administration Mark Andrew, general manager of Westin Bayshore Resort & Marina
- Vice chairwoman for member services Susan Krug, executive director of the Child Life Council
- Immediate past chairwoman Terri Breining, president of Concepts Worldwide.
The Trade Show Exhibitors Assn. has appointed Keith Ogulnick vice president of education and events. During 23 years in the tradeshow industry, he has been manager of tradeshow sales and services with the Natl. Sporting Goods Assn., vice president and show director with Professional Exposition Management and group director with Advanstar Communications.
Convention & Visitors BureausThe San Jose Convention & Visitors Bureau has made two new staff additions.
- Christine Carchia, who was most recently a senior sales manager with GES Exposition Services, was named national sales manager. She is former president of the Northern California chapter of the Professional Convention Management Assn.
- Former Sonoma County Tourism Executive Director, Sheila Walker, is the SJCVB's new director of marketing.
The Atlanta Convention & Visitors Bureau recently announced several staff changes:
- Monica Green was hired as sales manager, national accounts.
- Amanda Dyson was hired as national sales manager, tourism.
- Tammi Whitehead was named manager, small meetings.
- Pholeta Sanders was named manager, technology and Web presence.
- Brandon Barnes was named director, international marketing and sales.
- Brandy Humphries was named director, communications and public relations.
Exhibit Enterprises, an exhibit builder and event marketing firm, has promoted account executive Shawn Hande to director of the Engine Components Group.
Sparks Exhibits & Environments has hired Robin Lickliter as marketing manager. She will be responsible for executing marketing initiatives and building the company's public relations structure.
David Pitcher, product design manager at Rose Displays, has been promoted to the newly created position of creative strategist.
Facility ManagementBryan Gay has been promoted from senior national sales manager to director of convention sales for Mandalay Bay Convention Center.
SMG has named Brian Kabatznick vice president of business development. The former Ticketmaster executive vice president will oversee expansion into new markets for facility privatization, including stadiums, arenas, convention centers and performing arts centers.
SMG and the Long Beach Convention & Entertainment Center have promoted Dan Lee to director of facilities, which will include overseeing the operations department. He has worked with SMG for over 10 years, overseeing the center's accounting, box office, purchasing, human resources and parking departments.
General ContractorsFreeman Decorating has promoted David Gauthreaux to vice president of corporate events from his previous position as national sales director in the same department.
GES Exposition Services has made two new hires.
- Detra Page, formerly media relations manager for Sprint's Western region, has been brought on as public relations manager.
- Craig Smith will act as regional loss prevention director overseeing the Western region. He most recently was safety director for Pardee Homes.
Advanstar Communications' Powersports Group has named Lance Bryson director of sales. Bryson most recently was director of national sales with Clear Channel Communications' Motorsports Division.
George Little Management has named Nancy Guerin, of the Fredericksburg Museum and Cultural Center, and Jane Riley, of the Manassas Museum Store, to the advisory board of the Washington Gift Show.
The Intl. Woodworking Machinery & Furniture Supply Fair-USA has appointed Jim Wulfekule director of marketing and communications. He last served as senior group sales manager with the Hampton Convention & Visitors Bureau in Hampton, Va.
Show ServicesSkilled labor provider ShoLink has announced several staff changes:
- Larry Ciccotti has been named regional operations manager.
- Paul Lester has been promoted from assistant city manager to Las Vegas city manager.
- David Davila has been promoted from traveling supervisor to Las Vegas assistant city manager.
Jack O'Brien has been promoted to executive vice president of Aramark Convention and Cultural Attractions. He most recently served as regional vice president for Aramark Sports and Entertainment, overseeing 38 stadium, arena and amphitheater accounts.
Brian Scott has been named chief information officer for Conferon Global Services. He last worked in the same capacity at ExpoExchange.
Cleanevent USA has hired Russell Tysinger as vice president of events. He most recently acted as director of capital projects and facility maintenance with the Daytona Intl. Speedway.
