CMP Media Enlists ITP Group to Manage TECHXNY
By Margo McCall -- Tradeshow Week, 11/24/2003
CMP Media is bringing in Intl. Trade & Development Group to help manage TECHXNY, its annual New York technology show.
The U.K.-based ITD oversaw OutsourceWorld at this year's TECHXNY, held Sept. 15–18 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. OutsourceWorld was one of the biggest attractions of the event, which drew 25,000 to 30,000 attendees.
"It worked very well for us. It brought international exhibitors that we had never had before," said CMP's Christina Condos, director of the 21-year-old show. "What it basically marks is a different direction and a different way of doing things. The goal is still to create a week of technology in New York. They're helping us to do that."
ITD's job will be to bring added depth to sales and marketing efforts for TECHXNY, known as PC EXPO until its 2000 name change. Like other technology shows, TECHXNY has evolved in recent years as a consequence of the economic downturn. Now, instead of a computer show, the audited TECHXNY is a vertical event with added features such as boot camps for Windows and Linux. Further vertical events will be added to the 2004 show, which will be held at the Javits Oct. 5–7.
In 2002, TECHXNY ranked 181 on the Tradeshow Week 200, a listing of the largest shows in the United States, with 150,000 net square feet and 400 exhibitors.
