SMOTY Awards Deadline One Week Away

The deadline for nominations for The Expo Group Show Manager of the Year (SMOTY) awards is quickly approaching. The fifth annual awards will be presented Dec. 2 in San Antonio.
The awards are given to individuals — not tradeshows or companies — who have made a difference in the lives of their colleagues and clients. An independent panel made up of tradeshow industry publishers and others will judge the nominees based on their use of innovation, customer service philosophy, commitment to success and ability to overcome obstacles.

"Anyone responsible for the production of a tradeshow is eligible," said Ray Pekowski, president and CEO of The Expo Group. "This is our way of honoring show managers who exhibit attention to detail, creativity, premier customer service and an innovative spirit."
The SMOTY awards will be presented during a dinner planned to coincide with the IAEM Annual Meeting & Expo! Expo! Awards will be given in five categories, depending on the size of the manager's show: Tier 1, 1 to 150 booths; Tier 2, 151 to 300; Tier 3, 301 to 700; Tier 4, 701 to 1,500; and Tier 5, more than 1,501.
Winners in 2003 were: Tom Cindric for World of Concrete; Mark Dineen for CeBIT America; Camille Cimino for Museum Store Assn. Conference & Expo; Peter Nathan for U.S. Food & Agribusiness Exhibition; and Kelly Wise for ASNT Fall Conference & Quality Testing Show.
