GLM Finds Home for Permanent Exhibitors
Staff -- Tradeshow Week, 11/8/2004
To accommodate permanent gift exhibitors that are displaced while the New York gift, home accessories and tabletop market moves to another building, George Little Management will offer them temporary showrooms at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center during its Jan. 29–Feb. 3 New York Intl. Gift Fair.
The 650,000 square foot semiannual gift show will take place at Javits, along with the Show Piers on the Hudson at The New York City Passenger Ship Terminal and The UnConvention Center, Pier 94. It will feature four lockable showrooms in addition to its 2,800 temporary exhibits.
The showrooms will be on the concourse level of the Javits center in an effort to help the companies preserve their presence in the New York gift market, said Leslie Nathan-Street, GLM senior vice president and show director.
The gift market's former building, 225 Fifth Ave., changed ownership earlier this year and the tenants have been forced to move. Many have already signed agreements with Merchandise Mart Properties to relocate to 7 W. 34th St. The building, named The New York Gift Mart, will open for business in spring 2005.
Although many of the Gift Mart companies already are exhibitors at the gift show, the showrooms will "maintain the significance of these manufacturers in the marketplace," Street said.
The showrooms will also be available for meetings and entertaining after show hours and, Street said, GLM is considering making them a permanent part of the show in the future.
