Two Las Vegas CC Top Managers Retire
Staff -- Tradeshow Week, 11/15/2004
The Las Vegas Convention & Visitors Authority has announced the retirement of two of its top people at the Las Vegas Convention Center: General Manager Jim Pickering and Director of Security Don Ahl.
Terry Jicinsky, LVCVA senior vice president of marketing, said the two departures, effective Oct. 15, were coincidental. "They both were seasoned veterans with multi-decade careers," he said.
Pickering had been with the authority for 21 years. Prior to being appointed LVCC general manager two years ago, he had been director of customer accounts. Ahl, a 16-year LVCVA veteran, had been director of security since 1991.
Craig Rowley, who has been on the LVCVA's management team for about 20 years, will serve as interim general manager; Raye Suppe will act as interim director of security. The process of finding and hiring full-time replacements has already begun, Jicinsky reported. "We aren't committed to a firm time line," he said. "We're looking for the most appropriate candidate and will take the time required to find that person."
Jicinsky added that the LVCVA would be looking to achieve continuity, rather than make changes, through this transition. "Over the last several years, we've restructured the operations division of the LVCVA to the point where we're satisfied with the infrastructure. We're looking for a general manager who will fulfill the plan we already have in place."
