Korea Set to Celebrate KINTEX Opening
Staff -- Tradeshow Week, 2/7/2005
With its first three construction phases nearly complete, the Korea Intl. Exhibition Center, also called KINTEX, is getting the celebrations underway.
On Jan. 19, with 97 percent of its first phase finished, a pre-opening ceremony was hosted at KINTEX, featuring 200 attendees and a presentation by CEO Kihwa Hong. The grand opening of the $200 million facility in Goyang City — in the Gyeonggi Province surrounding Seoul — is set for April 29.
According to Kate Park of Far East Marketing, KINTEX will be the largest international exhibition center in Korea, and has booked such exhibitions as the Seoul Motor Show 2005, Kyunghyang Housing Fair 2006 and Korea Machinery Fair 2005.
KINTEX's first phase features five exhibition halls totaling 53,541 square meters (576,311 square feet); a 3,000-seat grand ballroom useable for conferences; and other conference space, including a VIP room divisible into 36 small or medium conference rooms.
The facility's grand opening ceremonies will include an inline skating competition, a kite festival and a fam' trip. The Asia CEO Forum 2005, an academic seminar and the motor show will coincide with festivities.
Expected attendees include officials from the Korean government; UFI, the Global Assn. of the Exhibition Industry; the Intl. Assn. for Exhibition Management; Fiera Milano; and Tokyo Big Sight.
