Western Exhibitors brought out more buyers to a slightly smaller Portland Gift & Accessories Show at the Oregon Convention Center Jan. 8–11. The semiannual show drew 4,577 buyers, a 3-percent increase over 4,448 in January 2004. The number of exhibitors dropped slightly, from 303 to 294. New programs that develop personal contact with stores and offer exhibitor-specific marketing are responsible for the increase in buyers, said Western Exhibitors President Mike Dean.
There were also more buyers for fewer exhibitors at the collocated Medical Design & Manufacturing West and Electronics West shows — resulting in $250 million in sales, according to producer Canon Communications. The Jan. 10–12 show at the Anaheim Convention Center attracted 14,568 attendees, 13 percent more than 2004's total of 12,892. Exhibitors dropped from 1,183 last year to 1,161 this year.
