PCMA Dinner Raises $100K for Industry

The Professional Convention Management Assn. Education Foundation raised approximately $100,000 for meetings industry research and education at the May 25 PCMA Education Foundation Dinner Celebrating Professional Achievement at the Hilton Washington in Washington, D.C.
Executives Christie Hicks, James Sweeney and Patti Shock were honored at the Chicago-based association's event, which drew more than 1,000 people.
Hicks, the supplier partner honoree, is senior vice president of global sales for Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide North American division. Sweeney, the meeting professional honoree, is CEO of American Dental Assn. Business Enterprises. Shock, the first university faculty honoree, is professor and department chair for the Tourism and Convention Administration Department of the Harrah College of Hotel Administration at the University of Nevada Las Vegas.
The new educator category "recognizes that educators in this field are part of the industry," said Shock. "It is a great honor."
PCMA Chairman Gregg Talley, president of Talley Management Group, said: "Our three honorees truly represented the best of each of the three industry segments that are so important to PCMA — meeting professionals, suppliers and academia."
The event included a silent auction of getaways to several destinations, such as Paris, sponsored by Delta Air Lines, Starwood Hotels & Resorts and Alitalia.
