A total of 41,081 professionals attended Messe Frankfurt Hong Kong's Guangzhou Intl. Lighting Exhibition June 8–11 at the Guangzhou Intl. Convention & Exhibition Centre in China's Guangdong province. That number was up 16 percent from the 35,495 attendees in 2004. Organizers also reported they increased by 11 the number of countries represented by international buyers, for a total of 101 countries. The showfloor also grew, with a reported 32-percent increase in exhibitors and 27-percent increase in net square footage over the previous year.

Meeting Professionals Intl. nearly broke its attendance record at the July 10–12 World Education Congress in Miami. With 3,417 attendees — a 1-percent increase over the 3,146 in 2004 — the show missed by just 44 people its record, set at the 2001 WEC in Las Vegas. MPI pointed to a strong economy and growing membership as reasons for the strong attendance.
