CIC Names 2006 Hall of Leaders Inductees

Tradeshow industry leaders Bob Dallmeyer, Frank Poe and Mickey Schaefer are among six meeting, convention and exhibition industry pioneers named most recently to the Convention Industry Council's Hall of Leaders. The group, when inducted at an Aug. 20, 2006, gala in Boston, will join 86 others in the Hall of Leaders.
Poe, director of the Dallas Convention Center, was nominated by the Intl. Assn. of Assembly Managers. He said he was humbled by the honor.
"For IAAM and our convention center management colleagues, bringing venue management into the Hall of Leaders speaks highly for our profession," Poe said, adding that his induction represented a milestone for venue managers.
Dallmeyer, president of RD Intl., said the response to his induction from friends and associates around the globe had been overwhelming.
"I never knew one award could elicit such positive energy," said Dallmeyer, who was nominated by the Intl. Assn. for Exhibition Management.
Schaefer, president of Mickey Schaefer & Associates, was nominated by the Professional Convention Management Assn.
Other inductees are:
- Bill Boyd, president and CEO, Sunbelt Motivation and Travel, nominated by the Society of Incentive and Travel Executives;
- Virginia Lofft, former vice president and publishing director, Primedia's Meetings Group Magazines, nominated by Primedia Business; and
- Carl Thompson, executive director, Society of Government Meeting Professionals, which nominated him.
The Hall was established in 1985. Each inductee is honored at the Hall of Leaders Recognition Pavilion in the Washington (D.C.) Convention Center.
