Freeman Sells Atlantic Canada Operation in Halifax
Staff -- Tradeshow Week, 7/11/2005
Canadian service contractor Global Convention Services has acquired Freeman's Halifax, Nova Scotia, operation at the World Trade & Convention Centre.
Global, which already operates in Halifax, will retain Freeman's local office and its three full-time management employees, who will become Global staffers. Global also purchased Freeman's equipment inventory and began servicing existing customers in the Halifax region on July 1.
According to Freeman, most of its Canadian show clients are concentrated in Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa. At the same time, Global's regional client base is focused on the four Canadian provinces on the Atlantic coast: Newfoundland and Labrador, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.
John O'Connell, executive vice president and COO of Freeman's eastern region, said the decision is "in the best interest of both our regional customers in Halifax, as well as our other exposition clients in Canada, to concentrate each of our respective company strengths in the marketplaces we serve best."
Global has competed with Freeman in Halifax since 1994. It is headquartered in St. John, New Brunswick, with two other offices in the region.
Global President Mark Howes said, "We are very excited to be adding the Halifax Freeman staff to our tradeshow team, and we welcome their local customer and community support as well."
