Rimini Expo Centre Expansion Underway
Staff -- Tradeshow Week, 7/18/2005
Work has begun on the •30 million ($36.9 million) second stage of the Rimini (Italy) Expo Centre expansion. The project, slated for completion next July, will increase the venue's exhibition space from the current 82,000 square meters (882,640 square feet) to 109,000 sq. m. (1.2 million sq. ft.) in two new halls. The east entrance is also scheduled for expansion.
According to Rimini Fiera officials, the expansion is part of a project that includes the new Palacongressi Conference Center, set to open in 2008. The new halls will have no internal columns and, like the 14 existing halls, will be fully cabled and air-conditioned. The design features layered wood roofs, glazed areas and steel components. Six meeting rooms, each able to accommodate 70 to 140 people, will be added, as well as a restaurant and snack area.
The expansion will complete the initial expo center project. The facility opened in 2001, and its first expansion was completed last September.
Facility General Manager Piero Venturelli noted that the show Mondo Natura will be able to use the new halls, and Ecomondo, Tecnargilla, Sun, Sigep and a group of expanding food and beverage shows will have opportunities for growth.
