Mobley Moves On to Global Spectrum
Staff -- Tradeshow Week, 1/2/2006
Thomas M. Mobley Jr. is leaving his position as general manager and CEO of the Washington (D.C.) Convention Center to be senior vice president of convention centers for Global Spectrum.
In the newly created position at the Philadelphia-based Global Spectrum, he will work initially out of a Washington, D.C., office, taking responsibility for developing staff training programs and being a key part of the sales and new business development team.
"We think Tom brings a great amount of knowledge of the industry, and of future trends in the convention center business," said Mich Sauers, president of the 6-year-old Global Spectrum.
The company counts 14 convention centers among the 45 facilities it manages in the United States and Canada.
Mobley spent two years at the 725,000 square foot Washington Convention Center, which opened in March 2003.
Until a replacement can be found, the D.C. center will be managed by Deputy General Manager Reba Pittman Walker. The board of the Washington Convention Center Authority, which oversees the venue, is still deciding on how to go about finding a replacement for Mobley.
Before moving to Washington, Mobley spent 11 years at Chicago's McCormick Place. Prior to leaving there as general manager in late 2003, Mobley oversaw construction of the South Building, the renovation of Lakeside Center and the start of plans to construct the West Building, which will add 500,000 sq. ft. of exhibit space to the McCormick campus.
