Jim Boney Retires From Government Service
Staff -- Tradeshow Week, 12/29/2005
After 40 years of government service, Jim Boney has retired from the public sector.
He most recently served as sector manager for the U.S. Department of Commerce Intl. Buyer Program, which attracts overseas buyers in targeted sectors to DOC-approved U.S. tradeshows, the majority of which are ranked in the Tradeshow Week 200.
Boney previously served in a broad range of other assignments with the Commerce and State departments. He began his career in government as a management intern with the DOC. Later, he worked in Stockholm, Sweden, as regional trade promotion officer for Scandinavia, while managing U.S. Trade Center-operated events.
In the 13 years that Boney managed the IBP, he expanded the program from 18 to 40 annual tradeshows. He also increased overseas participation in shows from less than 90,000 per year to an average of more than 180,000 in the past several years.
Boney intends to establish a Washington, D.C.-area consulting firm for international tradeshow event marketing.
He currently serves on the DOC Federal Credit Union board.
Joe English, a senior international trade specialist for the Commerce Department, is serving as acting program manager for the IBP.
