Convention and visitors bureau executives come and go — but where?
Tradeshow Week caught up with two former CVB executives who abruptly resigned their posts last year, and spoke with a prominent CVB leader as he prepares to step down.
Melvin TennantThen: Resigned as executive director of the San Antonio Convention & Visitors Bureau in May. Tennant was also chairman of Destination Marketing Assn. Intl.
Now: Chief innovation officer, San Antonio-based consulting firm Innovative Management Resources
Replaced by: Janis Schmees, acting director
Cary RountreeThen: Left position as Atlanta Convention & Visitors Bureau executive vice president, sales and marketing in June
Now: Vice president of business development, Atlanta-based audiovisual rental and staging firm Hi-Tech Rentals
Replaced by: Mark Vaughan, 21-year Marriott Intl. veteran
Reint ReindersNow: For the last 15 years, president of the San Diego Convention & Visitors Bureau; will step down in June
Plans: Is "contemplating various other ventures" in San Diego
To be replaced: A 10-person search committee expected to announce a replacement next month
