Letters to the Editor
Staff -- Tradeshow Week, 4/17/2006
Dear Editor:
Re: "An Industry To-do List" (April 3, 2006)
My compliments to you and the entire editorial staff for "An Industry To-do List." Collectively you have the unique opportunity to hear all of our plans, issues and gripes, and to have a publication print a "get off your rear and do it" type of piece is great.

Re: "Do That Thing You Do — In China" (Jan. 30, 2006):
I am on a flight catching up on my reading, including Tradeshow Week. I just read your article on China in the Jan. 30 issue. I agree with you that there is a tremendous opportunity for trade associations to get involved in China to serve their members, and not just in exhibitions.
The Assn. of Equipment Manufacturers will hold its first CONEXPO Asia show in Beijing in May. It isn't the starting point for us. We have been in China for almost 10 years providing services to our members in the areas of market information, regulations, distributor searches, etc.
It was through this work that AEM was in the position to launch an exhibition. And the exhibition is being done, as you noted, to assist our members in the huge China and Asian markets, not to produce a big profit.
I will keep you posted on the results of this first overseas show for us.
Dennis Slater, President, Assn. of Equipment Manufacturers, Milwaukee
