CMP Asia Adds to Chinese Beauty Show

CMP Asia and its partner Bologna Fiere Group have expanded their portfolio of beauty shows in China. The two acquired a majority stake in the Guangzhou Beauty Fair for $7 million, and are planning to launch Cosmoprof Shanghai Jan. 31-Feb.3, 2007.
The Guangzhou Beauty Fair, begun in 1989 and held twice a year since 1996, attracts 3,000 exhibitors and 200,000 visitors to each show, according to organizers. The most recent event was held March 25–28 at the Chinese Export Commodities Fair Complex (Liuhua) in Guangzhou. The next show is scheduled Sept. 9–12.
Exhibitors include manufacturers, agents, distributors, wholesalers, suppliers, equipment manufacturers, beauty salon and spa chains, and trade media. They display cosmetics as well as ingredients, products, packaging and equipment for beauty, hair and health products. Attendees are distributors, retailers, wholesalers, salon owners, beauticians and hairdressers.
CMP Asia's aim is to increase international participation in the fair. The company hopes both the Guangzhou Beauty Fair and the new Cosmoprof Shanghai will be strong regional extensions of Cosmoprof Asia, an annual Hong Kong show that CMP Asia co-owns with Bologna Fiere. That show is an established international event for the Asia-Pacific beauty industry, attracting 1,000 international exhibitors and 40,000 visitors, according to CMP.
A company spokesperson declined to offer projections on the number of exhibitors or visitors for the debut of Cosmoprof Shanghai.
