Alaska's Anchorage Convention & Visitors Bureau has renewed its contract with SMG to manage the William A. Egan Civic & Convention Center there. The three-year contract will run until the end of 2008, and allows for extensions through 2010. SMG has also been awarded pre-opening services and management of the new Anchorage Convention Center, which is projected to open in the fall of 2008.
Sydney, Australia, will host the Rotary Intl. Annual Convention in May 2014. The event is expected to draw 22,000 delegates and inject an estimated Au $63.8 million (U.S. $45.1 million) into the local economy. The city originally bid for the 2012 event, but lost last November to Bangkok.
