Conventions India Promotes MICE Industry to Global Market
Staff -- Tradeshow Week, 8/1/2005
India wants more trade-shows and meetings. Consequently, the Indian Tourism Ministry will hold Conventions India - the Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Events Conclave Aug. 10–11 at the Taj Palace Hotel in New Delhi.
The meeting is billed as an opportunity for participants to gain information, share experiences and strengthen India's position as a MICE destination. An exhibition will be held on both days of Conventions India to enable members of the Indian MICE industry to showcase their services to potential conference planners. Session topics will include successful bidding, new technologies, show management, branding, event cuisine, financial management and event marketing.
Tourism Ministry Executive Director R. M. Puri said about 250 buyers are expected, including 25 to 30 from overseas, and about 45 exhibiting companies. Shri Rajeev Talwar, the government's director general of tourism, said India now captures about 3 percent of the world's convention and conference business, and efforts must be made to increase that share.
Expomedia Group recently opened the India Expo Centre EXPO XXI in New Delhi. Talwar said plans are in the works for new convention centers in Jaipur and Goa.
