Staff -- Tradeshow Week, 8/8/2005
The 331-room Marriott New Orleans at the Convention Center has opened across the street from the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. The property, which underwent a $60 million restoration, offers 18 meeting rooms with 24,464 square feet of meeting space, specialized prefunction areas and personalized meeting services. It can accommodate in-house meetings of up to 450 attendees.
The historic building retained its facade and elements of the former cotton mill that stood on the site in the mid-1800s. Its largest meeting room, the Crescent City Ballroom, offers 6,912 sq. ft. of space, a seating capacity of 900, and as many as 19 breakout rooms.
Jeff Anding, director of convention marketing for the New Orleans Metropolitan Convention & Visitors Bureau, said the Marriott will be a major player as a convention center hotel. "We can always use as much inventory as possible," Anding said. "It gives us more to sell, especially welcome with the coming convention center expansion."
