Industry Organizations Are Naming New Officers, Boards

A Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide executive has taken over as chairman of Meeting Professionals Intl.
At the same time Mark S. Andrew took office, new slates of board members were named for both MPI and the MPI Foundation. Two other industry organizations, the Trade Show Exhibitors Assn. and Healthcare Convention & Exhibitors Assn., also named new board members recently.
Andrew, most recently general manager of the Westin Bayshore Resort and Marina in Vancouver, British Columbia, became chairman at the recent MPI Intl. World Education Conference in Dallas.
Although he just became chairman of MPI, Andrew has been working full time at the group's headquarters for the past three months. He took a leave of absence from Starwood Hotels to help with MPI's leadership transition after the March resignation of Colin Rorrie Jr. as president and CEO.
Simultaneously, ending her year-long term as MPI chair was Christine Duffy, president and CEO of Maritz Travel.
David G. Gabri, president and CEO of Association Luxury Hotels in Washington, D.C., became chairman of the MPI Foundation Board of Trustees.
Cynthia Holloway was named president of HCEA at its most recent annual meeting in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Holloway, corporate communications director for Tyco Healthcare, noted that HCEA was celebrating its 76th anniversary this year, "which is amazing, especially when you consider how many times over the year's we've heard the weeping and wailing about the certain death of conventions and meetings."
