Poss to Be Honored at 2006 TSW Fastest 50
Staff -- Tradeshow Week, 10/16/2006
Galen Poss, president of Hanley Wood Exhibitions, will be recognized during the Tradeshow Week Fas-test 50 event for both his business acumen and his numerous contributions to the trade-show industry.
Poss will be honored during the black-tie gala Nov. 11 at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center. The same evening, the top prizes will be awarded to the fastest-growing trade, association and consumer-hybrid shows in the United States and Canada.
"I selected Galen to be our honoree because he is a model executive in the industry," said TSW Publisher Adam Schaffer. "He has an excellent record of innovation and growth, he has served the industry selflessly, and, most importantly, he is one of those guys who, when he walks into a room, makes everyone stand up a bit straighter."
As president of Hanley Wood Exhibitions since 2000, Poss oversees a portfolio of 14 trade-shows in the building, construction and remodeling sectors. Four of those shows are in the TSW 200, and two of them — Intl. Pool & Spa Expo/Backyard Living Expo and JLC LIVE Residential Construction Show — New England — are 2006 TSW Fastest 50 winners.
This past summer, Poss wrapped up a term as chairman of the Society of Independent Show Organizers. He has also been chairman of the Center for Exhibition Industry Research and a board member for the Intl. Assn. for Exhibition Management. In 1999, he received IAEM's William Hunt Eisenman Career Achievement Award.
During his three decades in the business, Poss has had stints at a convention and visitors bureau, an association, his own management company and the former Miller Freeman.
"It's a wonderful industry," Poss told TSW. "It's almost a fraternity in a lot of ways."
The TSW Fastest 50 weekend will be held Nov. 10–12. Along with the black-tie gala on Saturday night, there will be an opening reception at the Harvard Club, an executive-level conference at the BCEC and a Sunday morning brunch at Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Sox.
