NAB2007 to Offer Telecom Conference and Exhibits
Staff -- Tradeshow Week, 2/19/2007
The Natl. Assn. of Broadcasters will launch Telecom@NAB2007, a conference and exhibition for the telecommunications and network operating industry. The new event will take place April 16–18 in conjunction with NAB2007 in Las Vegas.
"It is no secret that telecom providers are getting into the business of delivering video," and that many are also looking at producing video, said Chris Brown, NAB executive vice president of conventions and business operations.
Brown said NAB already included a focus on professional video production and delivery, so it was only natural to carve out a home for telecom providers.
Telecom@NAB2007 will consist of a series of conference sessions and networking opportunities, including a broadband video conference, technology papers conference, telecom video production crash course and supplier exhibits.
Brown said Telecom@NAB would be relatively modest in its first year, featuring tabletop displays in a meeting room adjacent to the conference programming. That's the best approach in the early stages of building a community within the larger show, he added.
"We are looking to aggressively build this segment of the show," said Brown, "but it will happen over time. This year, we are conservatively anticipating 400 to 500 attendees total, but over the next three to five years we would expect that number to grow 10- or 20-fold."
Brown said he anticipated 15 to 20 exhibitors in Telecom@ NAB2007, and considerably more in the years to come.
