Global Update: New Fairs for Italy

Staff -- Tradeshow Week, 2/19/2007

Here's a roundup of the latest happenings from the global exhibition industry, including news of show launches, date changes and location changes:

  • In Italy, Fiera Bolzano has four new trade fairs this year. Sportitaly, a winter sports and outdoor fair, opened Feb. 18–20. A trade fair for building machinery and equipment, Baumec, will debut and collocate with Lignomec March 2–5. Also collocating with Lignomec in even-numbered years is building and construction tradeshow Bauschau. Disaster protection and civil protection tradeshow Civil Protec will debut May 18–20 with a projected 80 exhibitors. Finally, Tan&Nails, for the artificial tanning and nail design industry, is planned for a so-far-undetermined fall date in partnership with Health and Beauty Trade Fairs.
  • The ITE Group signed an agreement with Chinese organizer Zhenwei Exhibitions to organize oil and gas industry exhibitions and conferences in China. The initial agreement has the two collaborating on the existing CIPPE petroleum and petrochemical exhibition in Beijing. They will also launch a collocated conference, CIOGE, April 3–4 in the Nikko New Century Hotel, Beijing.
Matthew Moss, ITE head of international oil and gas conferences, said Zhenwei has developed two strong exhibitions in this growing market and ITE's international oil and gas conference and exhibition expertise will enable both parties to maximize the potential of the events. ITE has opened offices in Urumqi and Beijing in the past two years.
  • This year's A.C. Lighting North tradeshow, to be held May 1–2, will move into a new exhibit hall, the Saviles Hall, at the Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds, England, which could allow the show to grow by as much as 50 percent. The change allows show organizer A.C. Lighting to have the exhibits, seminar program and buffet lunch all in the same hall. The A.C. Lighting North Tradeshow focuses on buyers in the Midlands, Northern England and Scotland, and from the entertainment technology market. It features exhibitors from the theater, concert, film and TV lighting, audio and associated equipment industries.
  • Messe Frankfurt's Techtextil Rossija, an international textile fair in Moscow that has typically been held in September, will change to May dates this year. It will take place May 29–31, concurrently with Telogreyka, an international exhibition for uniforms and corporate clothing, and Intl. Industrial Week, a consortium of nine international exhibitions.
A spokesperson for Messe Frankfurt said late May is a period of increased activity for manufacturers in this sector, when buyers and wholesalers start planning their business for the following year.
The show will also move to a new fairground designed for international exhibitions, the Crocus Exhibition Center, where Intl. Industrial Week will also be held. Telogreyka is booked in the Sokolniki Exhibition Center, and the two fairgrounds will be connected by shuttle busses. Techtextil Rossija is expected to cover 4,000 square meters (43,000 square feet) with more than 100 manufacturers exhibiting.
  • Reed Exhibitions will debut Asia Luxury Travel Market, an offshoot of the Intl. Luxury Travel Market in Cannes, at the Shanghai Exhibition Center June 18–21. As with the Intl. Luxury Travel Market, 300 VIP buyers from the Asia Pacific region who specialize in luxury travel will be invited to the Asia event to meet exclusively with travel suppliers. All VIP buyers will pre-schedule their appointments online before going to Shanghai. No other attendees will be allowed into Asia Luxury Travel Market.
  • The Hong Kong Trade Development Council and Munich International Trade Fairs plan to launch Sports Source Asia Oct. 27–30 at Hong Kong's AsiaWorld-Expo. The international trade fair is for all kinds of sports equipment, clothing and related merchandise. Attendees will be sourcing managers for sports brands sectors and volume buyers, as well as licensees and purchasers.
  • William Reed Exhibitions will launch the Baking Industry Exhibition at Birmingham, England's Natl. Exhibition Centre April 6–9, 2008. It will run alongside Food & Drink Expo, the Convenience Retailing Show and Foodex Meatex. Charles Reed, group managing director of William Reed, said the U.K. bakery sector is diverse, covering craft and plant bakers, as well as supermarkets, so it's vital for the industry to have a truly focused event. The BIE will feature a demonstration theater, master classes and competitions, a fully functional bakery and an industry trend update.
  • The Bahrain Exhibition & Convention Authority and Messe Essen are preparing the April 2008 launch of the Bahrain Motor Show, a three-day event at the Bahrain Intl. Exhibition & Convention Centre. The show is slated to debut a week after the mid-April Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix. Participants will include car and truck manufacturers, and the show will feature three exhibition sections: new automobiles; auto maintenance and a gallery of antique and classic cars with a special presentation of not-for-sale historic vehicles.
