Global Update: Iraq Farm Show Opens

Staff -- Tradeshow Week, 3/19/2007

A host of show launches highlights this week's industry news from around the globe:

  • An international exhibition of equipment and services for cinema production, sound recording and photo, Cinema. Flash & Sound, debuted in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, March 1–3. Organizer IEG Uzbekistan targeted specialists in the creation of cinema and broadcast products.
  • A number of international firms took part in the March 3–6 launch of an exhibition in Amman, Jordan, that focused on revamping the Iraqi agricultural industry. The Intl. Exhibition for Developing Agriculture, Animal Resources and Food Sector in Iraq aimed to attract farm and irrigation companies, according to Green Iraq Group Director General Nedal Abdullah. Exhibitors displayed technology for irrigation, pumps, fertilizers, pesticides, farm supplies, high-quality seeds and saplings, machines and animal fodder.
  • CMP Asia launched a spring edition of Asia's Fashion Jewellery & Accessories Fair March 7–10 at AsiaWorld-Expo in Hong Kong. The firm expected 250 exhibitors from 13 countries. Editions of the show, also at AsiaWorld-Expo, are already held each June and September. Prior to 2006, they were held at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre.
  • Iteca Caspian will launch HotelExpo, a hotel business exhibition, April 18–20 at the Sport and Exhibition Complex in Baku, Azerbaijan. Iteca will tailor the event to the hotel and catering industry with exhibitors from manufacturers and suppliers of equipment, goods and services for hotels, congress halls, resorts, restaurants, bars and entertainment centers.
  • The China Intl. Music Market, scheduled May 17–20 in Beijing, has been canceled. The organizing committee ran into problems with getting the license to operate a fair, a mandatory requirement for all trade events in mainland China. The committee consisted of the China Music Instrument Assn.; NAMM, the Intl. Music Products Assn.; INTEX Shanghai; and Messe Frankfurt.
  • Haymarket Exhibitions canceled its luxury travel show Premium Travel 2007, scheduled May 15–16 at London's Royal Albert Hall. Despite attracting the highest number of pre-registered hosted buyers since the event's launch in 2005, support from participating companies in the sector wasn't strong enough, according to Haymarket Exhibitions Event Director Dominique Gill. Haymarket will maintain a close watch on the sector and consider an event again if the industry requires it, Gill said.
  • CMP Technology, organizer of the Game Developers Conference, is partnering with IDG to produce the Game Developers Conference China. The inaugural event, featuring content programmed by an advisory board of local Chinese gaming developers, will take place Aug. 27–29 at an undetermined site in Shanghai.
  • Koelnmesse will launch Intl. Sweet & SnackTec China Sept. 5–7 at the Shanghai New Intl. Expo Center in Shanghai. The confectionery and snack show for the Chinese market will focus on specific technologies, packaging solutions and ingredients. The new show is based on ProSweets Cologne. Intl. FoodTec China and Intl. Sweet & SnackTec China will be held in alternate years, in conjunction with the annual Sweets China and World of Food China trade fairs.
  • The Ontario Tire Dealers Assn. will collocate its Carfix World with Messe Frankfurt's Automechanika Canada as the OTDA Pavilion within the larger show when it debuts in Toronto Sept. 26–28. In addition to luring 50 companies to the pavilion, the association will provide conference speakers and marketing assistance, said Executive Director Bob Bignell.
  • Fair organizer and tour operator Orbit Tours & Trade Fairs of Mumbai, India, will launch the international Industrial Pumps, Valves & Systems at HITEX Exhibition Centre, Hyderabad, India, Oct. 5–7. The show will focus on foundries, molders and manufacturers of components and subsystems, such as mechanical seals.
  • Nov. 22–25 will mark the debut of Reed Exhibitions' Vienna Boat Show at Vienna's new MessezentrumWienNeu. The show will focus on luxury yachts, water sports equipment, diving gear and accessories.
  • Global Sources will launch two new tradeshows in Shanghai. China Sourcing Fair: Fashion Accessories and China Sourcing Fair: Baby & Children's Products will run concurrently Dec. 13–15 at the Shanghai New Intl. Expo Centre. Future editions of the shows are set for every June and December beginning in 2008.
  • Reed MIDEM will launch MIPIM Horizons, an international real estate tradeshow, in Cannes, France, in September 2008. This latest addition to the Reed MIDEM portfolio will be based on MIPIM, which also takes place in March in Cannes. MIPIM Horizons will focus on countries and regions with business potential to the real estate investment community. Special focus will be on Central Europe, the Middle East, Eastern Europe, Central Asia and Latin America.
Currently, Reed MIDEM holds five international tradeshows in Cannes: MIPTV and MIPCOM for the television and digital content industry, MIDEM for music professionals, and MIPIM and MAPIC for the real estate and retail sectors.
  • Antwerp-based easyFairs acquired the PROlogistics show for supply chain professionals in Benelux, from the show's founder Sigma. According to Eric Everard, CEO of easyFairs, the firm plans to grow the event by broadening its appeal for all types and sizes of companies providing supply chain solutions. The show is held every two years, with the last two editions collocated with easyFairs Empack at Brussels Expo. The next show is scheduled Sept. 25–26, 2008, at Brussels Expo.
  • Messe Berlin will launch a version of its ITB Berlin travel show, ITB Asia, in Singapore in fall 2008. Last year saw the launch of the show's first international edition, the Trade Show in Orlando. This year, it's set for Sept. 9–11 in Las Vegas.
