Hilton Breaks Ground Near Orlando Center
Staff -- Tradeshow Week, 6/4/2007
Hilton Hotels broke ground on a new 1,400-room, $380 million hotel located just south of the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando. The Hilton Orlando will be the first hotel connected directly to the OCCC, offering access to the South Concourse of the facility's North-South Building via a pedestrian sky bridge.
The 18-story hotel, on 26.4 acres, is scheduled to open in summer 2009.
Kathie Canning, deputy general manager of the OCCC, said the facility's management was excited about the hotel's groundbreaking. Until now, Orlando's center was the largest in the United States to not have its own anchor hotel.
"Convention trade groups have been awaiting this development, which will provide quality rooms within proximity of the convention center," she said.
The Hilton Orlando will feature 130,000 square feet of meeting space, including a 50,000 sq. ft. grand ballroom, a 30,000 sq. ft. junior ballroom and 38 meeting rooms. Fifty-two of the 1,400 rooms will be suites.
Hilton Hotels, along with managing the property, will hold a minority ownership interest.
