IAEE Climbs on Board the Green Train
Staff -- Tradeshow Week, 6/4/2007
The Intl. Assn. of Exhibitions and Events has formed a Green Committee to address environmental issues in the industry.
In a recent press release, IAEE's stated its goal for the formation of the committee was to "identify existing resources and develop best practices that address how to minimize the environmental impact of events globally."
Tradeshows are notorious for the amount of waste produced, but a handful of them, including Outdoor Retailer Summer and Winter Markets and Natural Products Expo West/Supply Expo, have taken steps to reduce their imprint on the planet.
IAEE hopes to use its influence on other industry organizations to convince even more tradeshows and events to become more environmentally aware.
The intention of the Green Committee, according to IAEE, is to develop documents with comprehensive resource references that will aid exhibition and event organizers, as well as suppliers, in creating more environmentally friendly green events.
The committee also has other activities:
- developing best practices for exhibitions
- developing educational programs to be presented at IAEE events
- working with other industry organizations on developing a compendium of resources for IAEE members
- generating articles for IAEE publications
Jim Kelley, director of sales for ICAT Logistics, will chair the committee. IAEE is searching for volunteers to serve on the Green Committee. Interested parties can contact Peggy Johnston at (972) 687-9202 or pjohnston@iaee.com.
