Diane O'Connor Launches Green Shows
Staff -- Tradeshow Week, 6/11/2007
Remember when it was hip to be green?
With former U.S. Vice President Al Gore stumping for the environment and numerous hybrid cars on the road, green is going mainstream. And companies with environmentally friendly products will have another tradeshow where they can exhibit in 2008.
Green Media Enterprises, a Los Angeles-based tradeshow organizer, recently announced the launch of two new annual shows — Green East and Green West — to take place in New York and Los Angeles, respectively.
"Going green is fast becoming one of the most significant economic, cultural and political shifts of the 21st century," said Diane O'Connor, Green Media president.
Green East and West are the first tradeshow launches for the six-month-old company. O'Connor resigned as vice president of events at Canon Communications in June 2006 after 20 years with the company. Apprise Media bought Canon about a year before her resignation.
Many shows with a similar theme already exist, including Natural Products Expo East and Natural Products Expo West/Supply Expo, Greenbuild Intl. Conference & Expo and West Coast Green Conference & Expo.
But O'Connor said she doesn't worry about Green East and West finding their niche.
"The difference is, our product encompasses everything," she said, adding that Green Media recognized the need for a large-scale event. Green East and West will put all the environmentally friendly products and services together, including business, government and individual interests.
Green West is scheduled April 29–May 1 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Green East will follow in October 2008 at the Show Piers on the Hudson at the New York City Passenger Ship Terminal in New York. Specific dates for the show at the Piers will be decided by July 1.
Attendees are expected from a broad spectrum of industries, including building, decorating, government, environmental, transportation, energy, manufacturing, design and packaging, waste management and consumer products.
