Reed Aquires India's Componex
Staff -- Tradeshow Week, 7/9/2007
Reed Exhibitions bought Indian event Componex from Electronics Today and renamed it Componex/Nepcon India. It was Reed's most recent move to quickly expand its interests on the sub-continent.
"As well as adding another strongly performing event to our business in India, Componex also gives us a high-profile presence and relationships with key vendors, media and associations across the entire sector of high-tech manufacturing and design," said Tim Porter, Reed Exhibitions' new business development director in India. One of those relationships is with the monthly journal Electronics Today, which will continue to sponsor Componex/Nepcon India.
Reed has several existing shows in the global electronics sector, including Nepcon Shanghai, Nepcon Shenzen, Globaltronics Singapore and Nepcon UK.
The company's plans for growing Componex/Nepcon India include adding more international exhibitors and attendees. By adding the Nepcon brand to the show, Porter said, Reed can increase surface mount technology suppliers in the show, a segment that will grow rapidly in India in the next few years, according to Reed research.
"We expect Componex/Nepcon India to form the cornerstone of our India strategy in this whole industry segment going forward," he added.
Reed Exhibitions has produced shows in India since January 2006 and operated six events before the recent acquisition. The company also won the contract to manage Petrotech 2007.
The second editions of JCK New Delhi and InCosmetics India will take place later this year. Aluminium India, which incorporates the Alucast Conference Reed acquired earlier this year, and 2008 SPE India Oil & Gas will debut in 2008.
Componex's 2007 edition attracted more than 20,000 visitors and 826 exhibitors from more than 25 countries.
Reed Exhibitions and Tradeshow Week are both units of Reed Business.
