Who attends: Engineers and technicians in the semiconductor industry
2006 show statistics: 299,725 net sq. ft.; 1,301 exhibiting companies; 19,600 attendees
Position on the 2007 TSW 200: 75
First year of show: 1971
New this year: Something called high-k metal gates. For 35 years, Semicon West has been the place where every new semiconductor technology innovation has been introduced. This year will likely be no different with more than 200 new products expected to debut, including several having to do with that inscrutable high-k metal gate.
The bottom line: The size of the showfloor and attendance have both steadily declined over the last few years, but it hardly matters to the nearly 20,000 who will be there. It's still the place to be every summer for everybody who is anybody in the semiconductor business. It also happens to be, year in and out, the largest tradeshow San Francisco hosts.
