Carbon Forum Coming to America
Staff -- Tradeshow Week, 7/23/2007
North America is getting to know its carbon emissions.
That is exactly why the Intl. Emissions Trading Assn. and Koelnmesse decided that the time was ripe to launch Carbon Forum America Feb. 26–27 at Moscone Center in San Francisco.
"We've seen some very interesting developments in this industry in the past eight to 12 months," said Mette Petersen, president and managing director of the U.S. division of Koelnmesse.
States, provinces and regions in the United States and Canada are working on initiatives to cut exhaust, she added. San Francisco was the first choice for the show's launch because California, by virtue of legislation passed last year, is leading the nation in its initiatives, and second, because of the city's location, equidistant from Canada and Mexico.
"It's really something that's going to take on more speed," Petersen said.
IETA and Koelnmesse have jointly organized Carbon Expo in Cologne, Germany, for the past four years.
"There has been interest from many of the players at the Cologne event" in a North American event, Petersen added.
The U.S. show will combine commercial, technological, policy and financial aspects of the carbon emissions control business for carbon traders, financial institutions, corporate representatives, venture capital funds, project developers, technology providers and universities.
Petersen said the event was likely to have a conference program, though details aren't finalized yet. Koelnmesse is hoping to attract 80 to 100 exhibitors and 500 to 1,000 conference delegates, she added.
