Cleveland Launches Med Mart Web Site

Staff -- Tradeshow Week, 7/30/2007

The Convention & Visitors Bureau of Greater Cleveland began a campaign to elicit public support for its proposed medical mart and convention center. Its efforts include the recent launch of a Web site, www.AShotInTheArm.org.

“The idea, we think, is to get out as much accurate information about the project as possible,” said Dennis Roche, CVB president.

The plan proposed by the city and Merchandise Mart Properties of Chicago would offer permanent showroom space for suppliers and exhibitors in the health care industry throughout the year, and a new convention center to hold primarily health care-related tradeshows.

The proposal would require a 0.25-percent sales tax increase – 25 cents on each $100 – to 7.75 percent. It's expected to raise $350 million.

That's where the Web site comes in. Roche said it's usually hard to get out all the information accurately, so the CVB turned to the Internet.
