Venetian Macao Stages Grand Opening
Staff -- Tradeshow Week, 9/3/2007
Visitors to Macao now have a taste of Las Vegas' Venetian Resort Hotel Casino in the form of The Venetian Macao-Resort-Hotel, which had its official grand opening Aug. 28.
The properties, halfway across the world from each other, have similarities, including nearly identical Grand Canal Shoppes.
The Venetian Macao also has more than 100,000 square meters (1.1 million square feet) of flexible meeting and exhibit space.
"We've signed binding contracts with 10 multi-year tradeshows representing more than 26 separate events to host at Venetian Macao on the Cotai Strip, beginning in September," said William P. Weidner, the company's president and COO, during a recent conference call.
Some of the events mirror ones staged in other parts of the world:
- CMP Asia Jewelry and Watch Show, organized by CMP Asia to be a complementary event to the Hong Kong Jewelry and Watch Fair. The Jewelry and Watch Show will open at The Venetian Macao in January.
- Asian Automotive Aftermarket Products Expo, produced by William T. Glasgow, will follow other successful AAPEX shows in Mexico City and Las Vegas. The Asian AAPEX is booked for two annual shows, the first in 2008.
- Global Gaming Expo Asia, organized by Reed Exhibitions, is initially booked for two annual shows with the first taking place next year.
Popular Sin City shows will also soon reach the opposite side of the world, according to Venetian officials.
"We advanced our plans with Cirque du Soleil to provide them a permanent home, their first in Asia," Weidner said of the company that produces several shows in Las Vegas.
