Global Update: Civil Defense in Qatar

Staff -- Tradeshow Week, 9/3/2007

News about show launches, date changes and other industry happenings around the world includes a new civil defense show in Qatar and a series of regional transportation events in Asia.

  • Qatar Civil Defence and Dubai Civil Defence will launch the Civil Defence Exhibition Sept. 4–6 at the Qatar Intl. Exhibition Centre in Doha, Qatar. It will feature new technology and current processes worldwide for Qatari engineers. Organizers expect more than 5,000 visitors, including architects, safety engineers, real estate developers, government officials and disaster management experts. The event will offer a forum for manufacturers of firefighting and safety equipment to exchange ideas and promote their products, systems and technology.
  • VNU Exhibitions Europe will debut VIV India Nov. 1–3 in the Pragati Maidan Exhibition Centre in New Delhi. It's the newest addition to the VIV series of shows, VIV Europe, VIV China and VIV Asia, all based on the "feed to meat" concept. At the Indian show, international and Indian exhibitors will present products and technology for animal husbandry. Organizers will offer conferences and seminars for the poultry, aquaculture and dairy industries of India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh and countries in the Middle East.
  • City Connect is a new event intended to connect Asian inland cities, multinational corporations and freight transport providers interested in improving supply chains out of strategic transport hubs. The first edition will be held April 7–8 in Chongqing, China. Sam Chambers, City Connect managing director, said there would also be City Connect events in Wuhan in September 2008 and Chengdu in November 2008. In 2009, Kunming, Harbin and Nanjing will be added to the schedule, as will a city in Vietnam. Flynn Consulting, which has put together transportation-related events in the region for 15 years, co-organizes City Connect.
  • Reed Exhibitions will launch Bex Asia 2008, a building and construction event for Asia. For the new show, Reed expects to leverage its experience with Batimat, an exhibition brand in the building industry that has enjoyed success in the Americas, Europe and Middle East. Bex Asia is scheduled May 21–23 in the Suntec Convention Centre in Singapore, spanning two halls with products that feature technology and services for the building and construction industry.
  • VNU Exhibitions Asia acquired the Landscape and City Design exhibition, typically held in Shanghai. The show will collocate with existing VNU events CRC & Expo for retail design, China Design & Contract and China Design Week. The combined event will take place in June at the Shanghai New Intl. Expo Centre.
  • The Scandinavian plastics and rubber industry will gain a new event in spring 2009 when Swedish show organizer Elmia launches Elmia Polymer in Jonkoping, Sweden, with German partner Schall Messen. Schall Messen also is involved with plastics processing show Fakuma in Friedrichshafen, Germany, as well as with the Qualitec and Motek shows, also in cooperation with Elmia.
