Show Offers Credits
Staff -- Tradeshow Week, 9/24/2007
If you're an ambitious Florida-based pool and spa builder, you could get enough credits during the last week of November to renew your state license.
"This is the first time that the Intl. Pool & Spa Expo/Backyard Living Expo has had the Florida CILB (Construction Industry Licensing Board) and association certification for their classes," said Tracy Beaulieu, conference manager for the Hanley Wood show.
The show will be at Orlando's Orange County Convention Center Nov. 28–30.
All 43 educational seminars there are approved by the CILB, including eight seminars in the Assn. of Swimming Pool and Spa Professionals' Advanced Pool Builder Program, which will be conducted Nov. 26–27 in advance of the show.
"It's more or less to supplement their hours," Beaulieu said.
Florida builders are required to take 14 hours of continuing education every two years to renew their licenses. "Since we're going to be in Orlando, I wanted to make sure the Florida builders (could get credit)," Beaulieu added.
Compared to other shows in similar industries, the conference program seems robust, but Beaulieu said Hanley Wood's educational offerings depend on the type of attendees at a show.
"Education is the cornerstone of the pool and spa and backyard living industry," Beaulieu said.
She added that Florida has a dense population of builders, making it easier to offer extensive educational options in Orlando than it would be at a show like Hanley Wood's World of Concrete in Las Vegas, whose 80,000 attendees come from a variety of states.
