The NECA Show Has Its Own Green Day
Staff -- Tradeshow Week, 10/8/2007
Everyone's seeing green.
Not envy so much, but environmentalism and sustainability. The National Electrical Contractors Assn. is one of the latest to announce green features added to The NECA Show, held Oct. 5–8 at San Francisco's Moscone Center.
"There's just so much emphasis on sustainability and green building ... that it's customer-driven," said Beth Margulies, director of public relations for NECA. This was the first year the show featured a section related to green energy and construction, in addition to Oct. 7 being "Think Green Day," which included several workshops related to the environment:
- "Emerging Green Markets: The Role of the Electrical Contractor on Green Building Projects" covered the history of green buildings, key market drivers, standards and areas of opportunity for electrical contractors, together with suggested strategies to expand business around Green Building Projects.
- "Residential Green Products & Energy Efficiency" featured the latest efficiency technologies, from compact fluorescent lighting and high-efficiency heating and air conditioning to electronic home automation controls.
- "Bright Future in Solar Energy" showed the fundamentals of photovoltaic systems, descriptions of residential through large-scale installations, BIPV (building integrated photovoltaics) and a brief overview of governmental and state programs.
- "Energy Efficiency/Green Products & Fire Stops" reviewed basic firestop techniques and energy efficiency practices using green products.
"An increasing number of our contractors, especially in California and on the West Coast, are involved in the green trend," said Beth Ellis, executive director of conventions and expositions for NECA. "NECA 2007 San Francisco is a great opportunity for us to focus on this very important movement shaping the future of the electrical contracting industry."
