Staff -- Tradeshow Week, 10/8/2007
Dmg world media's Calgary Home & Interior Design Show won Best of the Show in this year's Art of the Show competition, sponsored by the Intl. Assn. of Exhibitions and Events.
The Art of the Show competition recognizes excellence in promotional materials for exhibitions. Besides the Best of the Show award, there are 13 different categories of competition, with shows competing with other shows of their own size. The Calgary show also was the best entry in the attendance promotion category for shows over 150,000 net square feet.
Out of 164 submissions, judges selected 32 entries as first-place winners. The winning entries will be on display at Expo! Expo! IAEE's Annual Meeting & Exhibition Dec. 10–12 in Las Vegas. In addition to the first-place recipients, 26 entries received honorable mentions.
Terri Higgins, Calgary Home & Interior Design show director, said the winning campaign resulted in a 4-percent increase in attendance.
"We got great feedback, and we ran a very similar campaign for this year's show," Higgins said. "I'm very excited about winning this award."
IAEE President Steven Hacker said effective marketing is essential to the success of every exhibition or event, so it is important for the industry and its organizers to regularly focus on messages that are effective. He added that virtually all the Art of the Show entries serve as idea generators for organizers in almost any industry.
The Promotional Products Assn. Intl.'s "It's An Electric Experience" brochure, developed for The PPAI Expo 2007, won first place in the attendance promotion brochure category for shows over 150,000 net sq. ft. PPSI also won honorable mention in the attendance promotion campaign category for shows 50,000 to 150,000 net sq. ft. for Promotions East 2007. This is the fourth consecutive year that PPAI has won an Art of the Show award.
