The American Federation of Teachers didn't lose deposits when its Biennial Convention & Exhibition moved from San Francisco to Boston in 2006, said Leslie Getzinger, assistant director of public affairs. The group renegotiated its contracts with the hotels and was able to use the deposits for space in Boston.
