Venue Notes: Plaza Gets Green Light, Harrah’s Gets Spiffed Up

• Real estate investment and development company Elad Group has gotten the green light for its $6 billion Plaza Las Vegas mixed-use hotel development. The Clark County Commission has approved the company’s site development plan and special use permit, clearing the way for Elad to begin the project. Plans are for the Plaza to be an upscale, condo-hotel property with seven towers, 4,100 luxury hotel rooms, 2,600 condominium units and an almost 540,000 square foot convention center. Pending financing, construction is slated to begin at the end of this year.

• Harrah’s Las Vegas recently completed a full renovation of its meeting and convention facility. The property made improvements to its 25,000 sq. ft. space, including new floor and wall coverings and upgraded signage and electronic reader boards. The property also plans to install a new sound system. Harrah’s currently has 2,579 hotel rooms and suites.
• Boyd Gaming and Olympia Gaming have formed a joint venture to develop a casino-resort property in North Las Vegas. The two filed an application with the city to develop a 66-acre mixed-use, regional entertainment center in the Park Highlands community near the I-215 and Losee Road. Subject to city approval, Boyd Gaming plans to construct and manage the property on behalf of the joint venture.
