Quality Expo Moves to Charlotte
-- Tradeshow Week, 6/16/2008
Canon Communications announced that its biennial Quality Expo Detroit show will move from Novi, Mich., to the Charlotte Convention Center in Charlotte, N.C., to collocate with Canon-produced ATX (Automation Technology Expo) South, Design & Manufacturing South, Plastec South and SouthPack March 24-25, 2010.
Held in the odd years at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, this regional edition of the national Quality Expo show has served the greater Detroit and Upper Midwest area since 2000.
According to Canon, the move south comes as an effort to tap into the region's growing automotive, industrial equipment and metals fabrication industries. In 2008, the combined existing Charlotte exhibition included 600 exhibitors and nearly 11,000 advanced manufacturing attendees.
“The South's automotive, transportation, machinery and metal fabrication sectors continue to expand,” said Joshua Dome, director of sales for Canon's events division. “The demand is evident for an event to serve a marketplace that devotes more than $900 million to quality related technologies.”
According to Quality Magazine's Quality Spending Survey from December 2007, the South competes with the Midwest's buying power and 31-percent market share with 28 percent of its own.
The collocated shows in Charlotte expect to take up 280,000 square feet in Exhibit Halls A, B and C. Laura Hill, marketing and communications coordinator for the Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority, said the 2010 show is expected to have 6,000 attendees and a $5.6 million economic impact for the area.
