High Point Spring Dates Change
-- Tradeshow Week, 6/23/2008
Managers of the High Point Market continue to tweak the spring dates of the massive High Point, N.C.-based furniture show. In 2009, the show will be held April 25-30, opening on a Saturday and closing on a Thursday.
This year the show was held Monday through Sunday, April 7-13.
High Point Market President and CEO Brian Casey said the move was made to allow more high-end buyers the opportunity to attend the market during the weekend. He said having the show primarily during weekdays was fine with traditional large exhibitors and retail furniture buyers, but the market is attracting more interior designers, architects, home builders and specialty retailers.
He said, “(They) appreciate the ability to shop, learn and absorb key fashion and design trends over the weekend and still have a productive work week in their stores and offices.”
The decision to emphasize the ability to visit the market over a weekend is a turnaround from dates decided last year after survey respondents said in late 2006 that they preferred a Monday-to-Sunday format to an earlier Thursday-to-Wednesday format.
“Moving to a Saturday opening ensures that all customers will find all showrooms open and available to them,” Casey said.
The dates for the spring market are also later than any year since 2006 when it was held April 27-May 3. In 2007, the show took place March 25-April 1.
None of the High Point Market date changes affect the fall market. The fall show will next take place as originally scheduled Oct. 20-26.
