CityCenter officially named its center resort building Aria Resort & Casino. As the core of the $8 billion, 18 million square foot, multi-use resort, Aria’s hotel towers will contain 4,004 guest rooms, including 568 suites. Upon completion in late ’09, CityCenter will also have three non-gaming hotels – The Mandarin Oriental; The Harmon Hotel, Spa & Residences; and Vdara Condo-Hotel – as well as a residential development, Veer Towers. CityCenter also will include a tri-level, 300,000 sq. ft. meeting and convention space with four ballrooms and 38 meeting rooms. CityCenter is a joint-venture between MGM Mirage and Dubai World.

The $5 billion Crowne Las Vegas hotel-casino resort development project has been called off. Melbourne, Australia-based gaming company Crown Limited recently announced it will not go forward with the development project due to tight credit market conditions. LVTI, the joint-venture company that includes Crown Ltd., Texas-based developer Christopher Milam and private equity firm New York Capital Management, decided not to proceed with an option to purchase the 27-acre North Strip site for $475 million ($17.7 million per acre) and will make no further payments. Last December, the Clark County Board of Commissioners approved plans for a mixed-use, 1,064-foot hotel tower with 5,000 rooms. The property, former site of the Wet ’n Wild water park, is currently owned by Archon Corp.

The Excalibur Hotel-Casino is undergoing a room redesign project. Started in early ’07 and due to be completed in ’09, 2,000 of the property’s 3,991 rooms have been updated in a contemporary version of the resort’s castle theme, with the next phase set to begin in November. The property also has completed a refurbishment of its 12,000 sq. ft. meeting and banquet space.

Station Casinos' newest local property, Aliante Station, is now taking room reservations for Jan. 1, 2009 and beyond. Set to open Nov. 11, the $675 million North Las Vegas hotel-casino will have 202 guest rooms and suites and 14,000 sq. ft. of meeting, convention and banquet space.
