BIO Intl. Schedule Set Through 2013
Michael Hart -- Tradeshow Week, 7/8/2008 3:13:00 PM
At the conclusion of the 2008 BIO Intl. Convention June 20 in San Diego, show organizers revealed the locations of its annual meetings in 2011 through 2013, as well as likely locations for 2014 and 2015.
The Biotechnology Industry Organization previously announced that the next two meetings will be held May 18-21 in Atlanta and May 3-6, 2010, in Chicago.
Other future locations and dates for the biotech tradeshow and meeting are:
• Washington, D.C., June 26-30, 2011
• Las Vegas, June 25-28, 2012
• Chicago, April 22-25, 2013
The 2014 show is tentatively scheduled for San Diego and the 2015 show for Boston. Both commitments, according to BIO officials, are contingent on the cities announcing and completing convention center expansions by then.
BIO Vice President of Conventions & Conferences Robbi Lycett previously told Tradeshow Week that the rapid growth of BIO Intl. and its accompanying space requirements limited the number of potential destinations available to it.
“We need to go to buildings that can accommodate our floor space needs,” Lycett said. “Some of these smaller cities we used to go to when we only needed 100,000 or 200,000 square feet, we can’t go back there. We’re anxiously awaiting the San Diego and Boston convention center expansion announcements because those are the two biotech hubs, probably in the world.”
BIO Intl. reported the recent show, held Jan. 17-20 at the San Diego Convention Center, had 209,400 net sq. ft. of exhibit space. Last year’s show, held in Boston, had a 202,300 net sq. ft. showfloor, as well as 15,635 attendees and was No. 134 on the most recent TSW 200.
BIO Intl. also reported total attendance this year of 20,108 with more than 2,100 exhibiting companies.
Finally, BIO officials said that, beginning next year and continuing for the next seven years, the show will be held Monday through Thursday, unlike this year’s Tuesday-to-Friday format.
